Breaking: President Tinubu Cracks Down on Government Delegation to UN Meeting

In a bid to curb excessive spending and ensure prudent management of resources, President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern directive limiting the number of government officials attending the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting in New York.

According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngalale, the President has ordered a significant reduction in the size of Nigeria’s official delegation to the UNGA meeting, citing the need to reduce the cost of governance.

The directive was disclosed by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila during a one-day retreat for heads of government agencies in Abuja, where he emphasized that only essential officials would be allowed to attend the meeting.

Gbajabiamila noted that the decision to streamline Nigeria’s delegation is part of the administration’s commitment to ensuring prudent management of resources and reducing the cost of governance. He hinted at upcoming policy announcements aimed at ensuring efficient service delivery in government operations.

The Chief of Staff warned that officials without official business at the UNGA should not travel to the United States, saying, “If you have no business at the UN General Assembly, do not step foot in America.”

The retreat, themed “Strengthening Institutional Mechanism for Effective Delivery,” aimed to facilitate collaboration and coordination among government agencies under the State House’s supervision. Gbajabiamila urged heads of agencies to lead by example, ensuring compliance with relevant statutes, laws, and policies to enhance governance.

The President’s directive comes amid growing concerns about the cost of governance in Nigeria, with many citizens calling for a reduction in government expenditure. The UNGA meeting, scheduled for September, will be a test of the administration’s commitment to prudent management of resources.
