BREAKING: Former Ogun Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Soyemi Coker Dies at 66
ABEOKUTA – Former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly and former Chairman of Odeda Local Government, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Soyemi Coker, has died at the age of 66.
According to a statement issued by the family on Sunday evening, the elder statesman passed away at about 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in Lagos while preparing to attend church service.
The late Coker, who served as Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly in 2010 and earlier as Chairman of Odeda Local Government during the administration of former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel, was also a respected apex leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odeda Local Government.
Announcing the sad development, the family described his passing as a painful loss but expressed total submission to the will of God.
«”With a heart filled with gratitude and submission to the will of the Lord, we announce the passing of our patriarch, our brother, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Soyemi Coker. We do not mourn as those without hope, and in all things we give thanks to God Almighty, the Creator of everything,” the family stated.»
The family appealed to friends, political associates and the general public to remember them in prayers, asking God to grant the deceased eternal rest and give the family the strength and comfort to bear the irreparable loss.
Funeral arrangements, according to the family, will be announced in due course.
Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Soyemi Coker was widely regarded as a humble and accessible political leader whose contributions to grassroots governance, legislative development and progressive politics in Ogun State earned him respect across political divides.
His death has thrown the political family in Ogun State, particularly the APC in Odeda Local Government, into mourning.
