Female Students Assault Colleague Over Alleged Boyfriend Snatching in Igbesa
A female student of the Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa (formerly Gateway Polytechnic, Igbesa), was severely beaten by her fellow students over allegations of boyfriend snatching.
In a viral video that circulated on Wednesday, several female students were seen flogging the victim with long, thick canes. The attackers claimed their mothers were aware of their actions and stated that they did not care who the victim involved or reported the case to.
The victim was left with visible injuries on her back and head. Despite pleas from some students urging one of the attackers, identified as Lolade, to stop the assault, she refused, insisting that the beating was meant to teach the victim a lesson.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that an investigation has been launched. In a post on X on Wednesday, the command stated that the Igbesa Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has taken over the case.
“The Ogun State Police Command is on top of the situation, and the DPO Igbesa has taken charge of the case,” the post read.
Authorities are expected to take further action as the investigation progresses.
