House of Representatives, Security Chiefs to Discuss State Police, National Security Reforms at High-Level Dialogue

Abuja – Top security officials, lawmakers, and stakeholders will gather on Monday, June 16, for a critical Legislative Dialogue on Nigeria’s National Security Architecture, convened by the House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The event, themed *“Nigeria’s Peace and Security: The Constitutional Imperatives,”* will be held at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Abuja, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expected to deliver the keynote address.

Key attendees include National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Oluwatosin Ajayi.

The dialogue will focus on proposed constitutional amendments to address Nigeria’s security challenges, including *HB-617*, a bill seeking to establish state police and redefine law enforcement frameworks.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, emphasised the urgency of the reforms, stating that the 10th Assembly is committed to “legislative action that safeguards lives and property.”

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who chairs the Constitution Review Committee, noted that the forum aims to produce actionable recommendations on inter-agency collaboration, policing, and border security.

The event comes amid rising security threats, with lawmakers seeking community leaders’ input, particularly from conflict-prone regions, to shape inclusive reforms.

Expected outcomes include a roadmap for constitutional amendments, enhanced security coordination, and strategies for regional stability.
