Talabi receives Police Airwing team as Abiodun hails IGP over aircraft deployment
ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Government on Tuesday received a team from the Nigeria Police Airwing following the deployment of an operational police aircraft to the state to strengthen security operations and enhance public safety.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, received the aircraft and its crew on behalf of Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Talabi conveyed the governor’s appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tunji Disu, for the prompt approval of the deployment, describing it as a demonstration of the strong collaboration between the Ogun State Government and the Nigeria Police Force in tackling insecurity.
He said Governor Abiodun requested the deployment to reinforce the state’s security architecture and sustain ongoing efforts to combat criminality, banditry and kidnapping.
According to Talabi, the operational aircraft will enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering and rapid response by security agencies, while providing additional support for Operation Kosaye, the joint security initiative targeting kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements operating in forests, border communities and identified flashpoints across the state.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies with the resources required to effectively safeguard lives and property, adding that the government would continue to invest in measures that promote peace, security and economic development.
The Nigeria Police Airwing delegation was led by the pilot of the aircraft, CSP Jibrin Mohammed, who said the unit, established in 1973 as the aviation arm of the Nigeria Police Force, provides aerial surveillance, reconnaissance, search and rescue operations, police air ambulance services, transportation of personnel and equipment, airlifting of election materials and security personnel, as well as anti-crime and emergency response operations using helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and drones.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, said the deployment would further strengthen the command’s operational capacity in crime prevention and emergency response.
Ojajuni also commended the Ogun State Government for its continued support for security agencies, noting that the deployment would improve coordinated security operations and reinforce efforts to protect residents and critical infrastructure across the state.
