Ogun to Deploy Multi-Agency Security Force to Protect Schools

IPERU, Nigeria – The Ogun State Government has announced a new security initiative aimed at protecting schools across the state from emerging threats, Governor Dapo Abiodun said Wednesday.
Speaking at his Iperu residence during a visit by the League of Imams and Alfas to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, Abiodun said the measure was prompted by recent security developments in neighboring states.
The governor disclosed that the government will deploy a combination of formal security agencies and local vigilante groups, including the So-Safe Corps, Amotekun Corps, hunters, and vigilante organizations, to provide security for educational institutions.
“We have decided to engage the services of our security agencies, including the So-Safe Corps, Amotekun Corps, hunters and other vigilante groups, to provide security in our schools. We need to do this to protect the lives of our future generation,” Abiodun said.
He added that the security architecture will involve collaboration among traditional rulers, religious leaders, and law enforcement agencies to ensure effective coordination and surveillance around schools.
“We will mobilise the Amotekun Corps, the So-Safe Corps and all vigilante groups for the protection of schools across the length and breadth of the state. We will also provide stipends to encourage and support this initiative, and implementation will commence immediately,” he stated.
The governor emphasized that the initiative aims to prevent a repeat of incidents experienced in some neighboring states, noting that student safety remains a top priority.
Abiodun also announced the inauguration of a “Direct Impact Committee” to tour communities and address pressing needs such as transformers, boreholes, and solar streetlights. He said the government will provide monthly financial support to 10 persons in each of the state’s 5,043 polling units to cushion economic challenges at the grassroots.
He commended religious leaders for their prayers and support for peaceful coexistence, urging them to sustain their backing for law enforcement agencies.
“Development cannot thrive in a chaotic environment,” Abiodun said. “Please do not stop praying for us.”
