Ogun Intensifies Drive for Diaspora Investments as Treal Hotel and Suites Opens in Abeokuta

The Ogun State Government has intensified efforts to attract diaspora investments, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sector, with the inauguration of Treal Hotel and Suites in Abeokuta.
Speaking at the unveiling of the facility located in Ibara Housing Estate, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, who represented Governor Dapo Abiodun, described Ogun State as a prime destination for investors due to its strategic location and growing economic potential.
Talabi said the establishment of the hotel reflected the confidence investors have in the state’s business-friendly environment and development agenda.
“It was an absolute pleasure to be at the grand opening of the magnificent Treal Hotel & Suites. The air buzzed with excitement, and I could feel the energy of a truly special occasion,” he said.
He congratulated the Chairman of the hotel, Mr Adebayo Fagbenro, for what he described as a remarkable achievement and a demonstration of vision, dedication, and commitment to progress.
According to him, the facility represents more than a hospitality outfit, noting that it would contribute significantly to the economic development of Ogun State through job creation and tourism promotion.
“Treal Hotel & Suites is more than just a place to stay; it is a beacon of hospitality, a symbol of growth, and a significant contribution to the economic landscape of our dear state. This establishment promises to offer a world-class experience to guests and further elevate Ogun State’s reputation as a premier destination for business and leisure,” Talabi stated.
He further noted that Ogun State’s proximity to Lagos, expanding tourism assets, and rich cultural heritage positioned it as a natural hub for hospitality and leisure investments.
The SSG commended Fagbenro for returning to invest in his home state after spending over two decades abroad, describing the move as a strong vote of confidence in Ogun’s economic environment.
“The government remains committed to creating an enabling environment for investors, especially members of the diaspora bringing global experience and capital into the state,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, the Founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre, called for stronger collaboration between Nigerians at home and those in the diaspora to drive national development.
Ashimolowo said Nigerians abroad were excelling globally and should be encouraged to channel their expertise and resources into the country.
“Projects such as this represent private-sector patriotism capable of transforming the nation’s narrative,” he said.
In his remarks, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, described the investment as a major boost to the socio-economic development of Abeokuta.
The monarch noted that the city had continued to witness steady growth in infrastructure and private sector participation, positioning it as an emerging economic and cultural hub.
“Abeokuta is witnessing steady socio-economic development, and investments like this are a welcome addition to the growth and progress of our land,” the monarch stated.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Treal Hotel and Suites, Mr Adebayo Fagbenro, said the project was conceived out of a desire to improve hospitality standards in Ogun State and contribute to its economic growth.
“Having travelled extensively, I observed gaps in the hospitality sector back home and felt compelled to bridge them,” he said.
Fagbenro explained that feasibility studies conducted before the project revealed strong growth potential in the state’s hospitality industry, driven by increasing business and tourism activities.
His wife, Mrs Adejoke Fagbenro, said the promoters were focused on building a globally competitive hospitality brand anchored on expansion, excellence, and consistency.
The General Manager of the hotel, Mr Nuhu Onoja, also expressed confidence that the management team would position the facility as a leading hospitality destination in Ogun State through professionalism and quality service delivery.
Similarly, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Local Government Chairmen, Mr Henry Fagbenro, described the investment as a major boost to Ogun State’s tourism profile, noting that the state continued to attract credible investors because of its stable environment and investor-friendly policies.
