Ogun APC Congress: Committee Chairman, Wale Ohu Hails Governor Abiodun as a ‘Unifying Force’

ABEOKUTA– The All Progressives Congress (APC) Congress Committee Chairman, Chief Wale Ohu, has described Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun as a unifying force within the party, praising his role in fostering cohesion during the just-concluded State Congress.
Ohu made the remarks on Tuesday at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, where Chief Yemi Sanusi and 35 others were re-elected as members of the State Executive Committee for a four-year term. The election was ratified through a voice affirmation by 1,180 delegates and statutory delegates, in an exercise supervised by Ohu alongside officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking on the conduct of the congress, Chief Wale Ohu emphasized that the affirmation of consensus candidates demonstrated the party’s commitment to unity. He specifically commended Governor Abiodun, stating that his leadership style has been instrumental in bringing party members together.
“Governor Abiodun is a unifying force. The seamless process we witnessed today is a reflection of his dedication to cohesion and his ability to rally everyone behind a common purpose,” Ohu said.
Chief Yemi Sanusi was re-elected as State Chairman, while other officials elected include Alhaja Aminat Adigun as State Women Leader, Prince Aderibigbe Tella as State Secretary, and Chief Yemi Adelani as State Organising Secretary.
In his address, Governor Abiodun called for a shift away from patronage politics toward principled leadership and transparent processes. He stressed that sustainable electoral victories would be achieved through organisational discipline, grassroots engagement, and service-driven messaging.
The governor commended the delegates for affirming the consensus based on conscience and conviction, free from inducement. He urged party members to intensify engagement across wards and local governments, communicate achievements honestly, and inspire confidence among undecided voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also appealed to aspirants who did not emerge victorious to remain committed to the party, emphasizing unity and collaboration. Addressing the newly elected executives, Abiodun reminded them that their roles are strategic, not ceremonial, charging them to uphold the party’s constitution, promote unity, reconcile aggrieved members, ensure inclusiveness for youths and women, and strengthen party structures from ward to state level.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Yemi Sanusi expressed appreciation to Governor Abiodun and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for strengthening the party. He pledged that the new executive would justify the trust placed in them by reinforcing party structures, promoting fairness and equity, and expanding opportunities for young people within the party.
Sanusi emphasized that discipline remains non-negotiable and assured members that the leadership would remain accessible to all.
