Adeyemo Emerges as New Oyo APC Chairman by Consensus

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has elected a former deputy governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo, as its new State Chairman. His emergence was confirmed during the party’s state congress held at the Liberty Stadium in Ibadan on [insert current date if known, otherwise remove].

Adeyemo, a native of Igboho in the Oorelope Local Government Area, takes over the reins of the party following extensive consultations among key stakeholders across the state’s 33 local government areas. He previously served as deputy governor under the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi from 2011 to 2019.

In a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, it was confirmed that the decision was reached through consensus, a process supervised by a congress committee mandated by the party’s national leadership in Abuja.

Providing further details, former National Youth Leader and Secretary of the party’s Ad Hoc Zoning Committee, Hon. Azeez Repete, described the congress as peaceful. He noted that an ad hoc zoning committee had been constituted to equitably allocate positions in the State Executive Committee among the local government chapters. Repete serves as the secretary of that zoning committee, which is chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle.

The state congress is part of a broader series of internal party elections. The APC national leadership had slated March 3 for the conduct of state congresses across the country, paving the way for the party’s National Convention scheduled for March 27 and 28.

These exercises follow the successful completion of ward congresses on February 28 and local government congresses, during which three delegates per local government were elected for the upcoming National Convention.

According to the adjusted APC 2026 Schedule of Nationwide Congresses and Activities—signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu—appeals arising from the just-concluded congresses are set to be heard on Wednesday, March 4.

Looking ahead, the purchase and submission of forms for the Zonal Congresses and the National Convention are scheduled to take place from Thursday, March 13, to Monday, March 16. The party has also fixed Monday, March 23, for the inauguration of various screening and appeal committees related to the zonal congresses and the national convention.
