OGEPA Boss, Akintunde Warns Industries to Comply with Environmental Laws or Face Sanctions

Abeokuta, Ogun State – Industries operating in Ogun State have been urged to adhere strictly to environmental laws or risk sanctions, as the state government intensifies efforts to ensure compliance.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and Chairman of the Ogun State Task Force on Environment, Compliance and Enforcement, Hon. Farouk Akintunde, issued the warning following the sealing of Akhibi Food Limited in Arifanla, Akute, Ifo Local Government Area.
The company, which processes cashew nuts, was shut down after residents filed a petition accusing it of air pollution from its operations. Hon. Akintunde stated that the agency acted after the management failed to respond to the state’s invitation to address the environmental concerns.
In response, Dr. Temitope Mathew, Medical Director of Cornerstone Hospital located opposite the factory, commended the government’s swift intervention and appealed to the company to implement eco-friendly measures.
The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to enforcing environmental regulations, warning that defaulting industries will face penalties.
