Oba Awokoya-Yesufu Hails Abiodun Over Elevation of Irete-Ijebu Stool

The Onirete of Irete-Ijebu, His Royal Highness Oba (Dr.) Abdulganiu Olusegun Awokoya-Yesufu, Otufesojoye Adetutu I, has expressed appreciation to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for approving the elevation of his stool to the status of a Second-Class Oba.
The monarch described the elevation as a significant milestone in his reign, saying it represents not only a personal honour but also recognition of the traditional institution and the people of Irete-Ijebu.
Oba Awokoya-Yesufu made the remarks during separate courtesy visits to the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, and the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, at their respective offices in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
He commended Governor Abiodun for what he described as his administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions and promoting their role in the development of communities across the state.
According to the monarch, the elevation of the Irete-Ijebu stool would further strengthen the cultural identity of the community while creating greater opportunities for the traditional institution to contribute to the welfare and development of its people.
Oba Awokoya-Yesufu also expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government, traditional rulers, community leaders, indigenes and residents of Irete-Ijebu for their support, cooperation and goodwill throughout his five-year reign.
Meanwhile, the Onirete is set to mark the fifth anniversary of his ascension to the throne on October 18, 2026.
The monarch used the courtesy visits to extend invitations to Governor Abiodun and members of the State Executive Council to the anniversary celebration.
He said the anniversary would provide an opportunity to reflect on the achievements recorded in the past five years, celebrate the progress made by Irete-Ijebu and honour individuals and organisations that have contributed to the community’s development.
The monarch reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace, unity and sustainable development in Irete-Ijebu, pledging to continue working with relevant stakeholders to improve the welfare of his people.
He also urged the people of Irete-Ijebu to remain united and support initiatives aimed at advancing the community, noting that sustainable development could only be achieved through collective effort, cooperation and mutual understanding.
