Career Day: Ogun Pupils Explore Aviation Operations at Gateway International Airport

IPERU-REMO – Pupils from three primary schools in Ogun East Senatorial District gained practical insights into the aviation industry during an educational excursion to the Gateway International Airport (GIA) as part of activities marking this year’s Career Day celebration.
The participating schools included Our Lord the Good Shepherd Nursery and Primary School, His Favour Nursery and Primary School, and Hoddy Modern Primary School.
The visit offered the pupils a rare opportunity to experience airport operations firsthand, observe aircraft activities, and interact with aviation professionals who shared knowledge about careers within the aviation sector.
During the tour, the Head of Wildlife and Environment at Gateway International Airport, Mr. Tony Odufala, took the pupils through various sections of the airport, explaining the functions of critical departments such as air traffic control, passenger services, security operations, and aircraft maintenance.
Odufala also educated the pupils on the importance of safety procedures, discipline, and teamwork in ensuring efficient and secure airport operations.
Speaking on the significance of the excursion, the Proprietress of Our Lord the Good Shepherd Nursery and Primary School, Mrs. Nwodo Eucharia, described the visit as a valuable learning experience aimed at exposing pupils to a wide range of career opportunities and expanding their understanding of professions beyond the classroom environment.
According to her, practical exposure to workplaces helps children make informed decisions about their future aspirations while stimulating their interest in various fields.
One of the pupils, Ayomide Solaja, expressed excitement over the experience, particularly the opportunity to watch aircraft movements and learn about the technology that powers air transportation.
The educational tour forms part of efforts to provide pupils with real-world learning experiences and inspire interest in aviation and other professional careers from an early age.
