BREAKING: Police Rescue Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Sons; Two Suspected Kidnappers Killed

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, following a security operation in Oyo State.

The victims were rescued alive on Saturday evening, June 6, 2026, about three days after they were abducted while on their way to school in Ibadan.

According to security sources, the rescue operation was carried out around 7:30 p.m. after sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated tactical efforts by security personnel.

During the operation, police operatives reportedly engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, resulting in the death of two suspected members of the gang. Two firearms were also recovered from the suspects.

Sources disclosed that increasing pressure from security operatives forced the kidnappers into a confrontation, leading to the successful rescue of the victims without injuries.

A manhunt has since been launched for other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the exchange of gunfire. Some of the fleeing suspects are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.

The rescue ends days of concern following the abduction of Mrs. John-Paul and her twin sons on June 3, 2026. The victims were reportedly kidnapped at about 7:30 a.m. while travelling to drop the children off at school in Ibadan.

Witnesses had described the incident as a coordinated attack by armed men who intercepted their vehicle and whisked them away. Images and videos from the scene showed a red Toyota Camry abandoned with its doors left open, drawing a crowd of shocked residents.

The family of Chief Adelabu later confirmed the abduction in a statement issued through his media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, noting that security agencies had immediately commenced efforts to secure the victims’ release and arrest those responsible.

Mrs. John-Paul, 43, is the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. She previously worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring in 2025. She had since relocated to Ibadan with her children and was reportedly preparing to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, in the United States.

Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the rescue operation as of the time of filing this report.
