TETFund Explores Strategic Partnership with NILDS to Boost Education and Legislative Development

Abuja, Nigeria – In a move aimed at fostering strategic collaboration, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), led by its Executive Secretary, Arch. Sonny Echono, paid a working visit to the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) headquarters in Abuja. The visit aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent directive, channeled through TETFund, to prioritize the restoration of infrastructure in tertiary institutions across federal and state levels.

NILDS, an organ of the National Assembly, plays a pivotal role in strengthening legislative and democratic processes in Nigeria, spanning federal, state, and local government levels, as well as the ECOWAS sub-region. The institute is renowned for its capacity-building programs, which equip legislators and staff with the skills needed to effectively fulfill their mandates.
During the visit, the TETFund team was warmly received by the Director General of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman, who expressed enthusiasm about the potential for collaboration between the two agencies. Prof. Sulaiman highlighted the complementary roles of both organizations, noting that while NILDS focuses on enhancing legislative and democratic capacities, TETFund is dedicated to providing critical funding for educational infrastructure and facilities in tertiary institutions.
Arch. Echono emphasized the importance of the partnership, stating that it would not only bolster educational development but also strengthen governance and legislative effectiveness across the country. The proposed collaboration is expected to create synergies that will benefit Nigeria’s educational and democratic sectors, ultimately contributing to national development.
This strategic engagement marks a significant step towards addressing infrastructure gaps in tertiary institutions while simultaneously enhancing the capacity of Nigeria’s legislative framework. Further details on the partnership are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks as both agencies work to formalize their cooperation.
