Exclusive: Lawmaker Suspended With Gbenga Daniel Apologises to Party, Pleads for Clemency

A three-time councillor in Sagamu Local Government, Honourable Adekunle Folarin, has apologised to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State for the incidents that led to his suspension and has urged the party to lift the ban and grant him an opportunity to prove his innocence.
Folarin’s suspension was ratified by the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party along with that of the Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, in August. The action followed a report by Ward 6 of Sagamu Local Government which indicted him for committing anti-party activities and for shunning party summons to defend himself against the allegations.
In a letter addressed to the state chairman of the party and copied to Governor Dapo Abiodun and the APC chairman in Sagamu, Honourable Rafiu Opaleye, among others, Folarin explained that his failure to appear before the disciplinary committee was due to circumstances beyond his control.
He stated: “I tender an unreserved apology for not honouring the invitation of my ward’s fact-finding committee due to situations beyond my control and hereby request for opportunity for my exculpatory evidence on this matter.
“Sir, I am confident that an investigation will reveal the truth of the matter and exonerate me.
“I would be grateful, sir, if you could consider lifting my suspension order, while I assure you that I will continue to uphold the party’s values and work diligently with utmost loyalty as ever towards delivering my ward for the party in all upcoming elections and towards the growth of the party in all ramifications.”
When contacted, the Ogun APC Director of Publicity, Honourable Nuberu Olufemi, confirmed the development and stated that the matter would be deliberated by the relevant organ of the party.
