Ogun Seals Mining Site, Gas Station Over Illegal Activities

Sagamu – In a bid to curb illegal mining and environmental violations, the Ogun State Government has sealed off the Ideru-Soyindo dredging site and mining company in Soyindo/Ajaka Community, Sagamu Local Government Area.
The shutdown was carried out by the Ministry of Environment and the Ogun State Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement. Hon. Farouk Akintunde, Special Adviser to the Governor on the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), stated that the company’s operations were polluting the Ibu River, a major water source for the community.
“The dredging site was sealed and issued a stop-work order because its activities endangered public health and disrupted the Sagamu Water Corporation Scheme downstream,” Akintunde said.
He added that the firm engaged in unauthorized mining, causing severe environmental degradation in the area.
In a related development, PETROCAM Gas Station in Igbesa was also sealed for violating environmental laws after ignoring an earlier stop-work order.
The state government warned that it would continue to enforce environmental regulations to protect residents and natural resources.
