Ijebu Youths Rally Behind Awujale, Push for Creation of Ijebu State

Ijebu-Ode – The youths of Ijebuland, under the umbrella of the Ijebu Youths March for New State (IYMNS), have called on all Ijebu indigenes, both at home and abroad, to support the ongoing efforts led by the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba S.K. Adetona, and other stakeholders advocating for the creation of Ijebu State.

The group made the declaration during its first general assembly held on Tuesday at the Ijebu-Ode Club arena, attended by members and coordinators from the six local government areas of Ijebuland.

In his address, the Convener and Coordinator-General, Comrade Akeem Temitope Akilo, stated that the increasing momentum behind the Ijebu statehood campaign reflects widespread support. He commended the efforts of traditional rulers, led by the Awujale, and Senator Gbenga Daniel (Ogun East), urging youths to rally behind the initiative.

“We are committed to mobilizing our youths and collaborating with our royal fathers to ensure the success of this cause,” Akilo said. “Our leadership will drive advocacy, campaigns, and public enlightenment to achieve this historic goal.”

Hon. Tolulope Olubiyi Oduyemi, a key figure in the movement, emphasized that the creation of Ijebu State is a collective responsibility. “There is no gain without sacrifice. Ijebu remains the only former province in Nigeria yet to become a state, and this is our time to make history,” he said.

Comrade ‘Seun Oduneye, Director of Media and Communications, stressed the importance of grassroots mobilization, while Dr. Kubura Bakre, Director of Organisation, urged leaders at all levels to commit fully to the project.

The group also appointed coordinators to oversee youth mobilization ahead of an upcoming march in support of the statehood initiative.

The push for Ijebu State continues to gain traction, with stakeholders expressing optimism about its eventual realization.
