Senator Adeola Yayi Hails President Tinubu for Approving Federal University of Technology in Ogun West

..Ilaro Polytechnic Upgraded After Decade-Long Legislative Push

Abuja – Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Ogun West) has expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, into the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI).

The presidential assent, announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary, marks the culmination of a ten-year legislative effort by Senator Adeola to establish a federal university in Ogun West—the only senatorial district in Ogun State without one.

In a statement, Senator Adeola described the approval as a “liberating upgrade” that aligns with President Tinubu’s *Renewed Hope Agenda* for education. He highlighted the President’s commitment to tertiary education through policies such as infrastructure development, the student loan scheme, and improved funding for academic staff.

“I sincerely appreciate Mr. President for hearing the cries of my people,” Adeola said. “Ogun West, the industrial heartbeat of our state, now has a federal university that will foster technological advancement and educational opportunities.”

The lawmaker recounted that the push for the upgrade began in 2016 during the 8th National Assembly under Senate President Bukola Saraki, but the bill only passed the Senate before the session ended. In the 9th Assembly, the bill was passed by both chambers but did not receive presidential assent.

“Today, under President Tinubu’s leadership, this decade-long dream has become a reality,” Adeola stated. “We are immensely grateful to the 10th National Assembly and the President for this historic achievement.”

The upgrade was justified by the polytechnic’s existing infrastructure and academic resources, which surpass those of several newer federal and state universities. The new institution is expected to boost technical education and research in Nigeria’s southwest region.
