Obafemi Owode LG Chairman,Ogunsola Commends CP Ojajuni’s Anti-Kidnapping Drive, Seeks More Security Personnel

The Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Ambassador Adesina ‘Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, has lauded the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, for the Nigeria Police Force’s renewed offensive against kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes across the state.

Ogunsola gave the commendation while receiving the Commissioner of Police during a courtesy visit to the council secretariat in Owode-Egba, where he praised the police for the recent rescue of kidnapped victims and the arrest of suspected kidnappers.
The council chairman, however, appealed for the deployment of more security personnel to strategic border communities within Obafemi Owode Local Government, noting that the area’s strategic location and expansive boundaries make it particularly vulnerable to criminal activities.
He explained that Obafemi Owode, the largest local government in Ogun State, shares borders with Lagos and Oyo states, as well as seven neighbouring local governments—Abeokuta South, Odeda, Ewekoro, Ifo, Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North.
According to him, the council hosts critical national infrastructure, major industrial hubs, large agricultural plantations and rapidly expanding residential settlements along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, creating increased security demands.
Ogunsola highlighted several security challenges that have affected the area in recent times, including kidnapping, armed robbery, land grabbing, farmer-herder conflicts and cult-related violence. He recalled incidents such as the abduction and killing of farmers in the Ajebo and Ogunmakin axis, the attempted kidnapping of foreign nationals, the killing of a soldier and four civilians at Magbon-Etido, as well as the murder of veteran journalist Ms. Olakitan Oyesiku and her gateman at Agodo Community.
He assured the Commissioner of Police of the local government’s unwavering support in strengthening community policing, pledging continued collaboration with traditional rulers, Community Development Associations (CDAs), market leaders, religious organisations and local vigilante groups to enhance security across the council area.
The chairman also commended CP Ojajuni for the arrest of suspects linked to the murder of Ms. Oyesiku and applauded the launch of Operation Kosaye, describing it as a timely initiative to improve security across Ogun State.
Responding, CP Ojajuni expressed appreciation to Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for initiating and launching Operation Kosaye, describing the operation as one of the most robust security interventions in recent years. He noted that the initiative, which covers border communities between Ogun, Lagos and Oyo states, is backed by significant deployment of personnel and operational equipment.
The police commissioner also commended the Obafemi Owode Local Government Chairman for his continued support to security agencies, including the Area Commander, Divisional Police Officers and other security personnel operating within the council.
He disclosed that Obafemi Owode is among the three local government areas identified for urgent security intervention, particularly in addressing the activities of cult groups and other criminal elements.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Kayode Dipeolu.
Also in attendance were the Head of Local Government Administration, Miss Olufunke Adeniji, supervisors, councillors and directors.
