Ifelodun APC Leaders Adopt Adegbesan, Segun Kaka as Consensus Candidates Ahead of Primaries

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifelodun Constituency, Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Thursday, formally adopted Hon. Engr. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan as the party’s consensus candidate for the House of Representatives, just as Hon. Segun Kaka emerged as the consensus choice for the Ogun State House of Assembly seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The resolution was reached during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting attended by party leaders, executives and critical stakeholders from the five wards that make up Ifelodun Constituency.
The strategic gathering, held at the residence of the Apex Leader of APC in Ifelodun Constituency and former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Adesegun, in Ago-Iwoye, brought together an array of influential figures within the party structure, including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), former and serving political office holders, party executives, ward leaders, political appointees and grassroots mobilisers.
Addressing party faithful at the meeting, Chief Adesegun disclosed that the decision to adopt consensus candidates followed extensive consultations among leaders of the party aimed at preserving the unity, stability and electoral strength of the APC within the constituency.
According to him, the leadership of the party considered it imperative to avoid unnecessary rancour and internal division ahead of the primary elections and therefore resolved to present Hon. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan as the consensus candidate for the Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat, while Hon. Segun Kaka was unanimously adopted as the consensus candidate for the State House of Assembly seat.
Chief Adesegun described the decision as one taken in the overall interest of the party, stressing that both candidates possess the political experience, loyalty, capacity and grassroots connection required to sustain and advance the fortunes of the APC across the constituency.
The former Deputy Governor subsequently called on party members across the constituency to troop out en masse for the House of Representatives primary election scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2026, and cast their votes in support of Hon. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan as the party’s flagbearer.
He also appealed to other aspirants to accept the outcome of the party’s internal consultations in good faith, noting that the future still holds enormous opportunities for them within the APC.
Chief Adesegun acknowledged the sacrifices and aspirations of the affected aspirants, admitting that the decision may be painful to some, but urged them to see it as a collective position of the party leadership taken in the overriding interest of unity and victory.
“I understand the feelings of other aspirants because everyone has legitimate ambitions, but this is a decision reached by leaders of the party after due consultation. I appeal to them to accept it in good faith and continue to work for the progress of our great party. The years ahead are still very bright for them,” he stated.
The announcement was greeted with widespread applause and overwhelming acceptance by party members and stakeholders present at the meeting, who pledged total support for the party’s adopted candidates.
In a strong display of unity and party loyalty, other House of Assembly aspirants present at the meeting, including Hon. Adewale Adesina popularly known as “Feeling Cool,” Hon. Ganiu Buhari (GAB), Alhaji Arikewuyo and Hon. Raji Odunsi Abibat, openly aligned with the decision of the party leadership and joined stakeholders in raising the hands of Hon. Segun Kaka as a symbolic show of solidarity and support.
The meeting ended on a note of unity, renewed confidence and collective determination among party leaders and members to ensure a seamless primary election process and deliver overwhelming victory for the APC in the 2027 general elections.
