Chief Mercy Owolana, the Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Passes Away at 87

The Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Chief (Mrs) Mercy Owolana, has passed away at the age of 87. Otunba Debo Owolana announced her passing on behalf of the Owolana and Efunnuga families, stating that she joined the “triumphant saints” on Tuesday.

A renowned businesswoman and prominent daughter of Remoland, Chief Owolana was a trailblazer in various conglomerates, serving as Managing Director or Director in multiple businesses. Her exceptional business acumen, honesty, accountability, and simplicity earned her widespread respect and admiration within her trading circle [1).

Installed as the Iyaloja of Ikenne Local Government in September 2005, Chief Owolana was a devoted Christian and member of Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Ikenne-Remo, where she held the esteemed Otun Iyalode title. She was a dedicated servant of the church, contributing her resources and time to its upliftment and participating in various capacities, including the Men and Women Auxiliary and Anglican Youth Fellowship.

Recognized for her numerous chieftaincy titles from associations and clubs in Ikenne LG Area, Chief Owolana was a grassroots woman and philanthropist par excellence. She fostered peaceful coexistence between Ikenne indigenes, other tribes, and neighboring communities, endearing herself to the hearts of all Obas in Remoland. This earned her the revered title of Béérè Akarigbo of Remoland.

As the IYALODE of IKENNE, Chief Owolana’s legacy will be remembered for her commitment to her community, her unwavering faith, and her remarkable business achievements. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her impact will continue to inspire future generations.
