Tinubu Nominates Tax Reform Chief Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance

ABUJA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, pending confirmation by the Senate. The nomination was conveyed in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

If confirmed, Oyedele will replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. This marks Uzoka-Anite’s third portfolio in the current administration.

Until his nomination, Oyedele, 50, served as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. In that role, he was responsible for spearheading the overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system.

An economist, accountant, and public policy expert, Oyedele hails from Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State. He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in applied accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive education programs at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Oyedele brings over two decades of private sector experience to the role, having spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he joined in 2001 and rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

In addition to his professional career, he is a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

The nomination was announced in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy).
