APC Ward in Sagamu Explains Suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel, Cites Anti-Party Activities

SAGAMU – The Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 4, Sagamu, has publicly defended its decision to suspend Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East, stating it was a consequence of his repeated refusal to address allegations of anti-party activities.

The clarification was delivered during a press conference at the Ward Secretariat in Sabo, Sagamu, on Thursday, in response to a statement from the senator’s camp challenging the suspension.

Hon. Oluwole Aduroja, the Ward Secretary, speaking on behalf of the 19-member executive, stated that Senator Daniel was suspended after failing to honour multiple invitations from an investigative panel set up to examine petitions against him.

“The Ward Executive Committee unanimously resolved to suspend the senator after he repeatedly failed to appear before an investigative panel set up to examine petitions accusing him of activities considered inimical to the party,” Aduroja said, flanked by the Ward Chairman, Hon. Adebayo Ismail.

The alleged misconduct dates back to the last general elections. According to the party officials, Senator Daniel “acted in open defiance of the party and engaged in actions inimical to the interest of the APC and its candidates in Ogun State.”

They further accused him of attempting to “obstruct and frustrate the course of justice” during the Election Petition Tribunal in a manner they described as “directly hostile to the interest of the APC and its candidates.”

Constitutional Authority Challenged

The Ward Executives also pushed back against a November 17 letter from the APC National Secretariat, which had questioned the local chapter’s authority to suspend a national officer.

Citing Article 21 of the APC Constitution, Hon. Aduroja argued that the relevant executive committees at all levels are empowered to initiate disciplinary proceedings. He emphasised that the National Working Committee’s (NWC) power does not nullify the disciplinary authority of the ward level.

“For the purpose of emphasis, no provision of Article 21(4) subjects the decision to suspend the senator to the oversight of the National Working Committee,” Aduroja explained, asserting that any suspension is subject only to an appeal process within the party’s constitution.

Reaffirming their position, the Ward 4 Executive Committee declared the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel “remains in full effect,” underscoring their commitment to upholding discipline and due process within the party.
