Ogun Assembly Summons Dangote Cement, River Basin Authority Over Environmental Concerns

ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State House of Assembly has invited the management of Dangote Cement, the State Ministry of Special Duties and the Managing Director of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority to appear before it over environmental concerns affecting communities across the state.

The invitation followed separate matters raised during plenary on Tuesday by the lawmakers representing Yewa North I State Constituency, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, and Odogbolu State Constituency, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Adeyanju raised concerns over environmental degradation, traffic congestion and the dangers allegedly posed by the indiscriminate parking of Dangote trucks in and around Ibese.

According to him, some of the trucks were reportedly associated with the Dangote Refinery, which is not located in Ogun State. He also noted that an earlier commitment by the company to construct a trailer park to ease traffic congestion along roads leading to its Ibese facility had yet to materialise.

Adeleye, on his part, brought a petition before the Assembly concerning the death of an eight-year-old boy allegedly caused by flooding at Atiba, an emerging community within his constituency.

He called for urgent preventive measures, including the construction of standard drainage infrastructure to facilitate the free flow of water during rainfall and reduce the risk of flooding in the community.

Following deliberations on the issues, the Assembly resolved to invite the relevant stakeholders for an interface to address the concerns raised by the lawmakers.

The Assembly scheduled Tuesday, September 29, 2026, for the interface with the invited companies, government ministry and agency.

The lawmakers are expected to seek explanations from the stakeholders and examine possible measures to address the environmental, traffic and flooding concerns raised by affected communities.
