Ogun Assembly Passes 2027-2029 MTEF Ahead of Next Year’s Budget

ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) for 2027–2029, providing the fiscal framework for the preparation of the state’s 2027 budget and subsequent financial years.

The MTEF was approved with effect from September 8, 2026, following consideration of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

Presenting the committee’s report, its Chairman, Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, moved for its adoption. The motion was seconded by Hon. Lukman Adeleye and supported by the lawmakers.

The Speaker thereafter presented the MTEF sector by sector before the House for consideration.

Following the presentation, the House Chief Whip, Hon. Omolola Bakare, moved a motion for the approval of the financial framework. The motion was seconded by Hon. Adeleye and subsequently supported by all members of the Assembly.

The Speaker directed the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin, to forward the clean copies of the approved MTEF to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and other relevant government agencies to facilitate the preparation of the 2027 budget and projections for the outer years.

Earlier, Lamidi disclosed that the MTEF had been referred to the House Committee on August 28, 2026, for further legislative consideration and necessary action.

The approved framework projects a total budget expenditure of ₦2.086 trillion for 2027, ₦2.294 trillion for 2028, and ₦2.524 trillion for 2029.

The passage of the MTEF sets the fiscal parameters for the Ogun State Government as it commences preparations for the 2027 Appropriation Bill and provides projections for subsequent fiscal years.
