OGUN NUJ INFORMATION CHAPEL TO MARK SECOND ANNIVERSARY WITH GRAND CELEBRATION

Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Information Chapel, is gearing up to celebrate the second anniversary of its current administration with a series of exciting activities designed to highlight the chapel’s progress and strengthen unity among its members.

The announcement came from Comrade Femi Osipitan, the Chapel Chairman, during the June edition of the monthly congress held at the Olusegun Osoba Press Centre, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Comrade Osipitan stated that the festivities are set to begin on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. The diverse lineup of activities will include novelty football matches pitting male members against their female counterparts, relay races, table tennis, swimming, ludo, draft, chess, medical check-ups, and a cinema outing to conclude the event.

He highlighted the successful implementation of several initiatives since the current executive assumed office in August 2023. These include local training programs, enhanced welfare packages, renovations of the chapel secretariat, and land allocations through the chapel’s estate scheme.
The chairman also revealed that efforts are underway to organize national and international training retreats, with a committee already inaugurated to plan an out-of-state retreat.

In addition, Comrade Osipitan reminded members that the tenure of the present state NUJ executive, led by Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, is set to expire on December 22, 2025. He outlined the criteria for members interested in contesting for any position at the Council: a minimum of seven years as a practicing journalist, 50% attendance at monthly state congresses, and financial membership status.

Comrade Ajibola Taiwo, responding on behalf of other members, commended the executive for its commitment and performance over the past two years. He noted that their efforts have significantly elevated the chapel’s image, and the planned anniversary activities reflect their dedication to both professional development and member welfare.
