AKINLADE ABIODUN SET FOR RECORD FIFTH TERM AS TINUBU BACKS RETURN OF EXPERIENCED LAWMAKERS

In a strategic move to preserve institutional knowledge and curb the high turnover of federal legislators, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a plan to facilitate the return of seasoned and loyal lawmakers to the National Assembly. Among the prominent figures tapped to benefit is the Right Honourable Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, the ranking member representing Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency of Ogun State, is now poised to secure a historic fifth term in the House of Representatives.
The initiative, championed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), is designed to safeguard legislative memory, ensure stability, and guarantee a seamless take-off of the 11th National Assembly ahead of the President’s second term. Party insiders reveal that the presidency undertook a quiet, thorough evaluation of sitting lawmakers to identify those considered indispensable to the progress of the parliament and the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“Lawmaking is a serious business that thrives on experience. The constant replacement of representatives after every election cycle erases vital legislative memory and fuels instability in the process. The longer a lawmaker serves, the better the outcomes for their constituency and the nation,” a senior APC source explained.
The source further noted, “The presidency has carried out a discreet assessment of lawmakers who add real value to the parliament and are aligned with Mr President’s vision. The goal is to retain willing, long-serving legislators who can provide the guidance needed in the chambers.”
Under the arrangement, no fewer than 100 members of the House of Representatives and 35 Senators are being lined up for return tickets. The move is intended to inject a deep well of experience into the incoming assembly and prevent the disruption that often accompanies a massive influx of fresh legislators.
Rt. Hon. Akinlade, described by party officials as a trusted and influential figure within the Green Chamber, falls squarely into the category of lawmakers the presidency wants back in the saddle. His expected return for a record fifth term underscores the confidence the party places in his legislative dexterity and unwavering support for the government’s programmes.
“To fortify the parliament and ensure the 11th National Assembly hits the ground running, it is crucial to bring back tested and dependable hands from both chambers,” another high-ranking APC official stated. “Hon. Akinlade perfectly fits that mould.”
