The Chairman, House committee on transport at Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Daisi Elemide, on Monday presented cash gift and food items to farmers and market women within Odeda Local Government, to Cushion effects of cash trapped during the coronavirus pandemic.
Elemide, who represents Odeda Constituency in the state of Assembly presented Cash gifts and 5kg of rice with transportation fare to the constituents across one hundred and fifteen polling units, irrespective of their political affiliations.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Lawmaker Representing Odeda Constituency, Hon. Daisi Elemide said the aim of the intervention was to economically boost their capacity, preparing them for bumper harvest thereby contributing to the achievement of Ogun State government’s food security programme.
Hon. Elemide assured the constituents that more interventions are underway towards bringing them succour.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Newsmen pledged to put the intervention provided them into good use and called on the lawmaker not to relent in his efforts of touching the lives of his people.
Mr. Adio Makinde, who spoke with newsmen after receiving the gifts and the cash, appreciated the gesture, saying it took understanding the feelings of the downtrodden to roll out these gifts for the farmers and the market women.
He revealed that most people, particularly farmers have eaten up their farms produce and those who go out on daily basis to earn a living, are seriously facing hunger.
Mrs Kehinde, another beneficiary from Itesi ward explained that the rice given to them would go a long way in celebrating the Ileya festival despite the pandemic.
She disclosed that she sells tokunbo clothes, but the coronavirus has starved her of money to feed his family because the precautionary measures handed down by the government didn’t allow them to open shop.
She, therefore, appreciated the kind gesture of Hon.Elemide,calling on well-meaning individuals, particularly political office holders to help the poor and the vulnerable in the season of hardship.
