Ogun Govt Disowns Fake ₦20,000 Cash Transfer Link, Warns of Phishing Scam
The Ogun State Government has raised the alarm over a fraudulent message circulating on social media and messaging platforms, which falsely claims that Governor Dapo Abiodun is offering a ₦20,000 Youth Empowerment Cash Transfer.
In a statement issued to warn residents, the government categorically disowned the scheme and the accompanying registration link — https://dapo-20k-youth-empowerment.urlnub.com — describing it as a phishing scam designed to defraud unsuspecting individuals.
“The message is completely false and should be disregarded. The link being circulated is not an official Ogun State Government website and has no connection whatsoever with Governor Dapo Abiodun or any government empowerment programme,” the statement read.
Members of the public have been strongly advised not to click the link, register, or provide personal details such as banking information, BVN, or One-Time Passwords (OTP).
The government further directed residents to ignore and delete the message immediately, refrain from sharing it, and verify all official announcements exclusively through the state’s recognised communication channels.
The statement added that security agencies have been notified and efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators. “The Ogun State Government remains committed to protecting residents from cyber fraud and urges everyone to remain vigilant against fake empowerment schemes and misleading online promotions,” it concluded.
