Obadara Fires Back, Accuses Amosun of Twisting Facts Over Ogun Central APC Meeting

The raging controversy over last Thursday’s Ogun Central All Progressives Congress (APC) meeting took a fresh turn on Saturday as Senator Olugbenga Onaolapo Obadara flatly rejected Senator Ibikunle Amosun’s account of the gathering, describing it as inaccurate, misleading and a deliberate omission of material facts.
In a strongly worded statement issued by his Media Office, Obadara accused the former governor of rewriting the events of April 23, 2026, to suit a political narrative that, according to him, has no basis in reality.
Obadara’s rebuttal came hours after Amosun’s camp released a statement titled “Setting the Record Straight,” in which the former governor claimed the meeting was convened at his instance and that three aspirants had earlier visited him and volunteered to step down if he was interested in the senatorial race.
But Obadara knocked down that claim, pointing out a fundamental omission in Amosun’s version: It was Amosun who sought him out, not the other way round.
“Contrary to the claim that three of the aspirants came to his house to seek support for their aspirations and support, it is on record that Senator Amosun personally called him to request an urgent meeting at his residence, which was obliged out of courtesy and honour. That call and invitation were the genesis of his attendance. This material fact was completely omitted from Senator Amosun’s press release,” Obadara’s media office stated.
The former senator, who represented Ogun Central between 2011 and 2015, was even more emphatic on the claim that he ever agreed to step aside for Amosun, labelling it false.
“At Senator Amosun’s private meeting in his house, mention was made on the people that have shown interest in Ogun Central Senatorial ticket and Senator Obadara at this time told him of his interest in coming out and he actually did and confirmed at the larger meeting,” the statement read. “At no time did Senator Obadara volunteer to withdraw for Senator Amosun, nor was he asked to. Any suggestion that such a discussion took place is false.”
Obadara’s camp further revealed that at the Osoba residence meeting, Amosun told those present that some people with whom Obadara had discussed his ambition had informed him the younger senator would step down — a claim Obadara said he denied vehemently. The media office put a sarcastic question to Amosun: “What is the rationale for one to step down for who is not in the race!!!”
On the “three aspirants” narrative, Obadara was categorical: He was not a party to any such conversation and cannot speak for anybody else. “He speaks only for himself: he never made such a commitment, and none was sought from him.”
While the statement acknowledged that Obadara holds Amosun in high esteem as a former governor and senator, it warned that respect must not be used as a cover for falsehood. “Respect for individual and former offices held does not require accepting a false narrative,” it said.
The Obadara camp called on stakeholders to stop what it called revisionism, warning that the APC in Ogun Central needs truth and unity, not doctored accounts, as the 2027 general election approaches.
“Senator Obadara remains committed to the party and will present himself to the party members of Ogun Central for their support as their Senator once again. He will not be pressured to step down through media statements,” the statement concluded.
