Mbah takes his search for escape to Arthur Eze, dispatches two to Senegalese marabout – Report
In what appears to be his continued desperate, yet fruitless search for escape from the scandal threatening his governorship of Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah, Wednesday, July 12, 2023, paid a visit to renowned philanthropist, Prince Arthur Eze at his Abuja residence.
This is even as reports also indicate that the embattled governor has also dispatched two of his close confidants to Senegal to elicit the spiritual intervention of a renowned marabout.
Mbah, who has paid similar visits to a number of perceived influential people in Abuja in the past three days, was sighted entering the palatial home of the businessman on Wednesday morning, accompanied by just a few aides.
The visit, which lasted less than one hour, observers felt, is in continuation of the search for who would accept the plea of the beleaguered governor to find those who would be willing to assist him in inducing the judiciary in the increasingly impossible task of retaining an obviously stolen election.
Mbah has been dogged by endless controversy since he emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 elections following revelations that he had allegedly forged his NYSC discharge certificate.
Enugu Monitor has been following his desperate moves to be freed from the forgery entanglement that had seen him approach many power brokers in the country. The visits, which appear to be fruitless, have taken him to the Presidency, where he met President Bola Tinubu. Previous efforts also saw him engage the Emir of Bichi, in Kano and many others.
Enugu Monitor had also reported his overtures to the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. Gen. Y.D. Ahmed, who reportedly informed him there was nothing anybody could do to help him. The DG went ahead to confirm the Enugu Monitor report during a live appearance on Arise television, where he revealed that Mbah had come to his office and was told it was impossible to offer any way out for him.
It was not immediately clear if he got any commitments from Prince Eze, but insiders who spoke to Enugu Monitor off the records said the visit, like many others, was also futile.
“Eze n’Ukpo told those around him when the man had left that there was nothing he was going to do to help him. He informed his friends that he was a friend of the NYSC and will not do anything to undermine the integrity of the establishment. He said that the NYSC was one of the few institutions in the country that everyone should protect because of its relevance to the unity of the country,” the source revealed.
Enugu Monitor also gathered that Governor Mbah has dispatched two of his closest associates to visit a Senegalese marabout, with the mandate to convince the man to bring his spiritual powers to bear on ensuring his success.
It was gathered that the marabout was the same person that prophesied to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that he was going to become president, a revelation that made him join the race in the 2023 election cycle.
The well-known Islamic spiritualist, who is said to be 93 years old, is well-known across West Africa and is patronised by politicians across religious divides.
But while dispatching the emissaries, it was gathered that some of the governor’s friends drew his attention to his Catholic faith and cautioned him about a possible disagreement with church authorities.
This, it was learned, was immediately rejected by the governor, who told them that his situation has become desperate.
“When His Excellency was told that the Catholic Church will not take kindly to his going to such extreme for help, his reply was that the situation he has found himself in was such that he was willing to accept any help from anywhere. He said that as far as he was concerned, anywhere help comes from is acceptable and that he does not care whether it was from a Muslim or Christian or even a native doctor,” the source said.
Governor Peter Mbah has been in Abuja for some days, taking the time to visit a number of unusual places. Although his media aides released pictures of his visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla, who is from Enugu State, investigations reveal that he made visits to senior officers in the military as well as other perceivably influential people, in desperate overtures for pressure to be mounted on the NYSC to relent on his determination to remain n the path of truth and honour with regard to the contentious NYSC discharge certificate.
