A longtime buddy who worked as an agent has betrayed a Ghanaian mechanic, leaving him empty-handed and with no hope of a better life in the Canada he wished for.
The sad event happened when the man, whose identity has not been disclosed at the time of gathering this report, was full of hope for a brighter future but fell prey to a cunning plan carried out by someone he trusted as an ally.
In a video posted online, the depressed technician described what happened to him as an ugly situation that has put him in a terrible condition.
He stated that his initial motivation to move to Canada came from a Facebook post made by a supposed friend who claimed to have made the voyage successfully and was now leading a prosperous life in Canada.
Anxious to take advantage of the chance for better times, the naïve mechanic soon sold his two automobiles and gave up a sizeable amount of cash—three thousand Canadian dollars, equivalent to N1.7 million—trusting his dreams to his agent friend.
The optimistic Ghanaian took the agent’s advice and traveled to the Ivory Coast, where he was assured of a crucial interview that would facilitate his immigration to Canada.
The mechanic discovered, however, that his friend’s boasts were merely a lie when he arrived in the Ivory Coast.
The victim was left shocked and dejected when the claimed agent, who had persuaded him of a profitable business opportunity in Canada, admitted guilt.
The mechanic, now back in Ghana, bravely shared his harrowing experience in an effort to raise awareness about the perils of such travel scams.
“When I arrived there, my friend, who claimed to be in Canada, visited me after I went for the said interview in the Ivory Coast. She confessed that there was a business opportunity in the country and wanted me to join. At that point, I felt very sad and told my friend that her deceit had negatively affected me,” the mechanic said in part.
Expressing his deep sadness, he recounted the emotional toll of realizing that he had been swindled by someone he had considered a friend.
