FCT Minister Declares ‘Park and Pay’ Scheme Illegal, Vows to Take Action

Abuja, Nigeria – In a shocking revelation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has declared the ‘Park and Pay’ scheme operating in the nation’s capital as illegal. The minister made this declaration during a live media parley with select journalists in Abuja, marking his one year in office.

According to Wike, the scheme was brought to his attention by a senior advocate, who reported that individuals claiming to be from the Transport Secretariat were attempting to seize cars, allegedly for non-compliance with the ‘Park and Pay’ regulation. Upon investigation, Wike discovered that the scheme was being operated by private consultants, who were pocketing 80% of the revenue generated, while the FCT administration received only 20%.

The minister expressed his unawareness of the scheme’s existence and immediately sought clarification from the relevant authorities. He condemned the operation, stating that it was illegal and vowed to take immediate action to dismantle it.

Wike emphasized the need for vigilance and transparency in governance, highlighting the importance of whistleblowers in exposing such fraudulent activities. He assured that his administration would take decisive action to prevent further siphoning of government funds.

The declaration has sparked widespread reaction, with many calling for a thorough investigation and prosecution of those involved in the scheme. The move is seen as a significant step towards tackling corruption and ensuring accountability in the FCT administration.
