2027: Ogun Igbo community endorses Tinubu, Yayi, confers chieftaincy title on senator

The Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, a socio-cultural organisation representing the Igbo community in Ogun State, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for re-election as president and election as Ogun State governor, respectively, in 2027.

The group also conferred the traditional title of “Dike Eji Eje Mba” on Adeola in recognition of his contributions to development and humanitarian services.
The President of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo in Ogun State, Eze Stephen Okorie, disclosed the group’s position when he led a five-man delegation on a courtesy visit to the senator over the weekend.
Okorie said the formal installation ceremony, scheduled to hold in Abeokuta at the end of October, would also feature the group’s public endorsement of Adeola and a declaration of support for all All Progressives Congress candidates in the state.
He said the decision followed the group’s assessment of developments in Ogun State, particularly in market infrastructure and road construction, which he said had enhanced trade and commercial activities.
“I have been a resident of Ogun State for the last 36 years, living in Owode-Yewa in Yewa South Local Government Area. We have been watching the politics and development in Ogun State and, based on the massive development that Senator Adeola has attracted to Ogun State in the last three years, particularly in market infrastructure and road construction to promote trade and commerce, the Igbos have no hesitation in endorsing the senator for governor of Ogun State and Tinubu for president in the 2027 election,” Okorie said.
He disclosed that he had personally erected five campaign billboards promoting Tinubu and Adeola across the state on behalf of the Igbo community, adding that campaign materials had also been produced in support of the senator and the APC.
Okorie said the group’s support for Adeola was also informed by its desire to see Ogun West produce a governor, noting that the zone had yet to occupy the position since the creation of the state.
He expressed confidence that Adeola would sustain his development initiatives if elected governor, citing his record in Lagos State and his continued interventions in Ogun.
Responding, Adeola recalled the support he received from the Igbo community during his political career in Lagos, where he was also honoured with the title “Dike Di Ora Nma” by the Eze Ndi Igbo in the state.
The senator said his political philosophy was based on inclusion and the provision of good governance for all residents, irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliations.
“My brand of politics is politics of inclusion and delivery of good governance for all the people. When roads, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure are constructed, it is for the good of all, and all law-abiding Nigerians are welcome to do business and make progress in Ogun State,” he said.
Those present during the visit included the APC deputy governorship candidate in Ogun State, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa Balogun; the Minister of State for Health and Social Services, Dr Kunle Salako; the Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele; and the APC Ogun West senatorial candidate, Hon. Laolu Olabimtan, alongside other party candidates.
The statement was signed by Chief Kayode Odunaro, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Ogun APC Campaign Organisation, on October 19, 2026.
