Ogun To Implement New Minimum Wage, Governor Abiodun Assures Labour Leaders

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has assured labour leaders that the state will not be second in the implementation of the new minimum wage. He made this statement during a meeting with the leadership of organized labour at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta.
The governor acknowledged the instrumental role of workers in the state’s rapid economic growth and promised to work towards implementing the new minimum wage without putting undue pressure on the people. He emphasized the need for creativity, efficiency, and increased revenue to afford the new wage comfortably.
Governor Abiodun also discussed measures to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal, including the energy transition program, subsidized rice sales, and alternative fueling transportation options. He attributed the current fuel scarcity to operational and financial issues and the hike in prices to subsidy removal and the floating of the Naira.
Labour leaders, including Comrade Hameed Benco, Comrade Akeem Lasisi, and Comrade Isa Olude, appreciated the governor’s engagement and suggested measures to mitigate the hardship, such as price regulation, special transportation arrangements, and work-from-home options for workers.
The Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, commended the governor for his commitment to workers’ welfare and well-being.
