Ogun PDP faction Seeks Redress Over LG Election Candidate List
The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appealed to the National Working Committee (NWC) to intervene in the controversy surrounding the list of candidates for the upcoming local government elections. According to Austin Oniyokor, Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ogun State, the party’s chairman, Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele, has reached out to the NWC to address the perceived injustices perpetrated by the Hon. Dada Awolaja-led Caretaker Committee.
The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has confirmed that political parties can substitute candidates’ names before the final list is published on November 6, 2024. The PDP hopes to utilize this window to reconcile varying interests and present a united front for the November 16 elections.
However, if the national leadership fails to address the grievances, disgruntled aspirants may boycott the election process, which could have dire consequences for the party’s future. The PDP is urging the NWC to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure inclusivity and unity among party members.
*Key Dates:*
– November 6, 2024: Final list of candidates to be published by OGSIEC
– November 16, 2024: Ogun State Local Government elections
Call to Action:
The PDP is counting on the NWC’s prompt intervention to resolve the issue and ensure a strong showing in the upcoming elections. With the party’s slogan “Power to the People” in mind, the PDP is committed to presenting a united front and promoting the interests of its members.
