Motorcyclist, Passenger Kill in Ado-Odo/Ota Accident
Ota, Ogun State – A devastating road accident occurred on Saturday morning along the Ota-Idiroko Expressway in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, claiming the lives of a motorcyclist and his passenger.
According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the fatal crash involved a white Iveco truck with registration number AAA 163 YJ and a motorcycle with registration number DGB 498 UW.
Eyewitnesses reported that the motorcyclist was speeding and attempted to overtake the Iveco truck, resulting in a collision that proved fatal for both the rider and passenger. A third person was injured in the accident.
“The accident was caused by wrongful overtaking on the part of the motorcycle rider, combined with excessive speed,” Akinbiyi stated. “Three males were involved, with two dead and one injured.”
The injured victim was rescued by Good Samaritans and taken to a hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were evacuated by TRACE operatives and police, and taken to the Ifo General Hospital morgue.
This tragic incident comes just a day after a similar accident in Lagos, where a motorcyclist lost his life after colliding with a moving vehicle on Carter Bridge.
TRACE and the police have urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid excessive speed, emphasizing the devastating consequences of reckless driving.
