MAUSTECH amendment Bill passes Second reading

The Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, Amendment bill, 2019 has scaled through second reading with a clarification that the bill only seeks to break the entanglement between the old Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and the new University of Science and Technology.

A cross section of lawmakers lend their voice to the issue at a plenary presided over by Speaker, Rt Hon Olakunle Oluomo shortly after the motion for the second reading of the bill was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon Yusuf Sheriff, and seconded by Hon Abiodun Sylvester.

In their separate submissions, lawmakers including Honourables Ademuyiwa Adeyemi, Osho Solomon, Ganiyu Oyedeji and the Deputy Speaker Oludare Kadiri, said that the bill was meant to ensure the smooth take-off of the two institutions, adding that it was a timely initiative .

They stressed that the amendment would resolve the long standing crisis regarding the two institutions, while devising mode of operation that would sustain academic activities of MAPOLY without letting off the creating of the new university.

Responding, Speaker , Prince Olakunle Oluomo while commending his colleague lawmakers for their robust contributions to the bill, directed that the bill be committed to the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology for further deliberation and legislative actions.
