“In Politics, You Don’t Need to Be Sincere” – Akinlade, Ogun APM candidate

….says under Amosun; a loyal party member can steal from the government without being punished.

In a video being circulated online, the defeated governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Hon. Abdulkabir Akinlade was recorded revealing the true nature of the politics that the groundless party played in the run up to the 2019 Ogun State gubernatorial election.

In the most damning statement, Akinlade said: “In politics, you don’t need to be sincere.” He went on to add, in Yoruba, that “Loyalty is all you need.”

This video is coming just weeks after the failed and unreliable politician decamped to his original party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), possibly leaving behind his leader, Former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, whom he had followed blindly.

According to Akinlade in the tape, “Loyalty is not about convenience.” This gives credence to the public opinion that Hon. Akinlade knew within him during the campaign period, that he was not going to win the election not only because of his own unpopularity amongst the common people but also because of the poor record of highandedness and callousness which his superior had set in his eight-year rule.

Senator Amosun, according to Hon. Akinlade, was in the habit of letting persons indicted for embezzlement and stealing go scotfree “once they are loyal” to him. This is to buttress one’s thinking that Former Governor Amosun himself stole from the State coffers but did not get punished because he was “loyal” (?)

What we all, the Ogun State people, should take away from this tape of a probably now honest Akinlade is that we should be grateful to God that we did not vote in a man who believes more in loyalty than sincerity, at the detriment of popular good.

In any case Akinlade himself was sacked by Amosun for financial impropriety as his SSA in Charge of Revenue. So for him to have been the one chosen over others by Amosun as his preferred successor says a lot about both of them. Thieves forgiving thieves.
