Chief Press Secretary to Ogun State Governor, Mr Kunle Somorin and some deserving media Professionals have been awarded and inducted as fellow Fourth-Estate Professional Society for their commitment to media evangelism in Nigeria.Among the awardees and inductees are Bolanle Adesida of Radio Nigeria, Paramount FM, Pastor Wole Dosumu,
Mrs Florence Musa Richard of the Ogun State Ministry of Information and other media professionals.
In a paper titled, “Sustaining Professional Practice in an Economic Challenging Environment”, a don in the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, Professor Victor Osaro-Edo implored journalists not to compromise the standards of Practice.
Professor Osaro-Edo also challenged governments and media proprietors to enhance the welfare of media professionals to enable them contribute meaningfully to the socio-political and economic development of the nation.
Delivering the second paper, the Head of Journalism department in the National Broadcast Academy, Mr. Abiodun Olowu, who spoke on “Combating Poverty in the Media Profession and There After”, submitted that poverty has a ruinous effect on journalists.
Mr. Olowu, who noted that financial literacy was key for journalists, added that the brown envelop syndrome would linger if the professional environment continues to be challenging.
Earlier in an address of welcome, the National President of FPS, Dr. Babatunde Salami said the association is waxing stronger in membership and influence in the society.
Highpoint of the event was the induction of members of the professional Body, among them are : Princess Bolanle Adesida of Radio Nigeria Paramount FM , RadioOne’s head of Marketing Department, Mr. Wale Sobande and the Head of Reportorial Unit, Mr. Akinboye Akintola as well as seventeen other professionals as fellows of the society.
Other dignitaries on the occasion include the Deputy Speaker of Ogun state Assembly, Mr. Akeem Balogun, the state’s Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Olayinka Longe, Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor,Mr. Taiwo Adisa.
