Breaking: APC NWC Holds Emergency Meeting Over Adamu, Omisore May Quit Too

The APC National Working Committee (NWC) is to hold an emergency meeting today, Monday 17 July 2023, at the APC National Secretariat Abuja to provide a dignified exit for the party’s embattled National Chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu.

A source at the APC National secretariat Abuja told This Newspaper that Adamu is expected to resign from the office of the National Chairman of the party during the emergency meeting to pave way for an acting chairman that will take the party to the NEC meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, July 18 2023.

Sources on Sunday disclosed that Adamu had resigned his chairmanship of the party via a letter dispatched to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is this decision that the APC chairman is expected to convey to the NWC formally at today’s emergency meeting.

The APC National Headquarters source stated: “There is going to be an emergency meeting of APC NWC members today, July 17 2023 to provide a soft landing for Adamu to resign from the office of the national chairman. The national secretary (Chief Iyiola Omisore) too is expected to do same ahead of tomorrow’s NEC Meeting.

“The party is in the rebuilding process ahead of next general election. The emergency of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the President also means some positions in the NWC have to be reshuffle especially the national secretary of the party who is from the same zone with the President.

“Adamu is facing the heat for mishandling the APC national affairs, especially the just-concluded 2023 general election. This has not gone down well with the party stalwarts and founding fathers like Bisi Akande, who are pushing for Adamu resignation,” the source added.

Recall that This Newspaper broke the news that Adamu had fallen out of favour with some power blocs in the APC and that he would be booted out by the party’s NEC meeting, which was later rescheduled for tomorrow as the date of an ECOWAS summit attended by President Tinubu clashed with the initial date picked for the NEC meeting.
