APC Chieftain, Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, Declares Bid for Ogun Governorship in 2027

Ogun State – Honourable Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and federal lawmaker, has formally declared his intention to contest the governorship seat of Ogun State in the 2027 general elections.
Akinlade, who currently serves as the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions and holds the traditional title of Baba Adinni of Yewaland, made the declaration on Sunday while addressing youths at the 2025 Owode-Yewa Youth Week celebration.
The influential grassroots politician, widely regarded as a key figure in the longstanding Yewa governorship agenda, told the gathering that with divine backing, he would become the next governor of the state.
“It is only God that can give people position,” Akinlade stated. “And I am assuring you in the name of Almighty Allah, that I will be coming to this same event in 2027 as the Governor of Ogun State.”
Known as a quiet philanthropist, Akinlade has been cited as a major source of youth employment and empowerment across the Ogun West Senatorial District. He enjoys strong affiliations across the state’s political spectrum, irrespective of party leanings.
At the well-attended event, he reiterated his dedication to youth development, pledging continued support for empowerment programmes, job creation, and skill-acquisition projects in Yewaland and across Ogun State.
The occasion was graced by notable personalities including HRM Oba Matthew Akindele, the Olu of Owode-Yewa; Honourable Babatunde Olaotan; Alhaji (Dr.) Mutiu Adewale Badmus, Chairman of Al-Hatyq Travels and Tours; and Chief Sunday Adeleye (Sunday Ibadan), Chairman of Julianky Petroleum.
Akinlade’s declaration sets the stage for what is expected to be a keenly contested race within the APC as the 2027 election cycle approaches.
