Athletes and the officials from ogun state (Team Ogun) at the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) holding in Edo State were, on Sunday, subjected to COVID-19 tests at the games village, on the University of Benin campus.
Newsacross.com reports that the tests, being conducted by officials of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), was to determine the COVID-19 status of all the athletes and officials participating in the sports fiesta.
While, the head of the medical team, an official of the NCDC, declined comment, an athlete from Ogun state said that Team Ogun were undergoing another round of tests at the games village, even though they did one before leaving their state.
“This is second time we would do the test. We did one before we left our Ogun and we are being subjected to another one here. Without this, we will not be cleared for the games”, he said.
The NSF, tagged Edo 2020, is holding between April 2 and 14, after several postponements, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
