Ipokia LG Boss Avoseh Joins NDLEA in Marking International Day Against Drug Abuse

Idiroko– The Ipokia Local Government Chairman, Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, alongside key stakeholders, participated in the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, organised by the Idiroko NDLEA Special Command. The event, held on 26 June 2025, carried the theme, *“The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention”*, reinforcing the collective commitment to a drug-free society through advocacy and community engagement.

The initiative commenced at the Idiroko border main gate, with participation from various security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Amotekun Corps, and National Youth Service Corps members, as well as secondary school students.

Dignitaries present included the Secretary to the Local Government, Babajide Johnson Olushola; Hon. Agboku James, Councillor of Ajegunle Ward; the Deputy Mayor of Ifonyin Municipality, Mrs. Ileola Maroufatou Falola; and Dr. Bonny Bokotu, Secretary-General for Nigeria and the Republic of Benin Interaction.

The campaign featured a march from the border through Old Baggage to Ojuroko, where the Chairman and the NDLEA Special Commander delivered impactful speeches. They urged the community to reject drug abuse and adopt healthier lifestyles, highlighting the severe consequences of substance abuse, including addiction, illness, and loss of life.

The NDLEA also informed youths about available rehabilitation services for those battling addiction, encouraging them to seek help. A stern warning was issued against involvement in drug use, distribution, or trafficking, emphasising the devastating effects of such activities.

The march proceeded to Iyana-Ago, where flyers were distributed, and community members were engaged in multiple languages—Ogu, Yoruba, English, Igbo, and Hausa—to drive home the dangers of drug abuse and the government’s dedication to public well-being.

This campaign serves as both a call to action and a reaffirmation of the commitment to protecting communities, marking a significant step toward a healthier and stronger society.
