Breaking: OGSIEC Extends Deadline for Party Primaries, Adjusts Nomination Fees

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has announced an extension of the deadline for political parties to conduct their primaries for the upcoming Local Government elections. The new deadline is now Thursday, September 19, 2024.

This decision comes after the Federal Government declared Monday, September 16, 2024, a public holiday, which prompted concerns from political parties about the impact on their primary schedules.

In addition to the extended deadline, OGSIEC has also prolonged the collection period for Personal Data Forms CF001 and CF002 to Monday, September 23, 2024, providing parties with sufficient time to complete the necessary formalities.

Furthermore, the commission has reviewed the nomination fees in response to requests from political parties. The fee for chairmanship candidates has been reduced from N250,000 to N200,000, while male councillorship candidates will now pay N100,000. Female councillorship candidates will pay N50,000.

It is important to note that all other aspects of the election timetable remain unchanged, with the Local Government elections still scheduled to take place on November 16, 2024.

These adjustments aim to ensure a smoother preparation process for the elections and promote greater participation from all political parties.
