EFCC Mourns Slain Officer, Condemns False Narratives

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has condemned the false narratives circulating on social media regarding the death of its officer, Assistant Superintendent Aminu Sahabi Salisu. Salisu was killed on January 17, 2025, while on duty, attempting to arrest suspected internet fraudster Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu in Awka, Anambra State.

The EFCC expressed grief over the loss of Salisu, who was killed in cold blood. The Commission views with concern the irresponsible narratives being spread on social media, reducing the death of a gallant officer to mere speculation.

According to the EFCC, Salisu and other investigators were at Dr. J.O. Ukwutinife Close, Ifite, Awka, to arrest suDrcted internet fraudsters. The operation was duly documented, and 37 suspects were arrested. However, Ikechukwu, who sighted the investigators through a CCTV camera, refused to open his door and fired shots, killing Salisu and wounding another officer.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ikechukwu was involved in coding and online medical supplies of doubtful legitimacy. The EFCC recovered two laptops, iPads, and several recording devices from his apartment.

The Commission warned the public that internet fraudsters are becoming increasingly hazardous to public safety and security, engaging in kidnapping, banditry, ritual killings, and other deadly acts.

The EFCC assured that it will bring Ikechukwu to trial and vowed to meet any wouldequent attacks on its officers with the full force of the law. The Commission appreciated the support and condolences from sister agencies and well-meaning individuals.
