APC Sets Emergency NEC Meeting for July 24th Amidst Leadership Transition

Abuja – The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has scheduled a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for Thursday, July 24th, 2025, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. The emergency gathering comes in the wake of the recent resignation of the National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the subsequent assumption of office by Alhaji Ali Bukar Dalori as the acting chairman.

A reliable source within the party, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed that the upcoming NEC meeting is expected to address several pressing internal matters, with the ratification of Dalori’s acting chairmanship and the roadmap for a substantive national leadership topping the agenda. The meeting will also deliberate on the party’s congresses, which typically run from the ward to the national levels, and other critical issues related to the APC’s administration and future direction.

Dr. Ganduje’s resignation, which was formally confirmed last Friday, June 27th, 2025, reportedly cited health reasons. His departure, less than a year after assuming the party’s top role in August 2023, has set in motion a period of transition within the APC.
Following Ganduje’s resignation, Alhaji Ali Bukar Dalori, who served as the Deputy National Chairman (North), swiftly took over as the acting National Chairman. Dalori officially assumed office on Monday, June 30th, 2025, and has since urged party members to remain united, emphasizing the need to focus on delivering good governance and strengthening internal party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also confirmed that a formal notice of the NEC meeting has been sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The NEC, being the second-highest decision-making organ of the party, will play a pivotal role in charting the APC’s course.

Political observers are keenly watching to see how the party navigates this leadership transition and addresses potential internal rifts, particularly regarding the zoning of the national chairmanship, a topic that has often sparked debates within the party.
The forthcoming meeting is anticipated to lay the groundwork for stabilizing the party’s leadership and ensuring its continued focus on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and preparations for future electoral outings.
