Abiodun Vows Historic Peaceful Transition in 2027, Urges Ogun Residents to Embrace Christmas Spirit

....Governor Points to Economic Growth, Infrastructure Legacy as Foundation for Seamless Handover

IPERU-REMO – Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has pledged that his administration will achieve a seamless and peaceful transition of power in 2027, setting what he described as a historic benchmark for the state.

The governor gave the assurance during the Christmas service at St. James’ Anglican Church, Iperu-Remo, in Ikenne Local Government Area on Thursday.

“As we approach 2027, not only will we finish well and finish strong, but by the grace of God, this administration will hand over successfully to a successor,” Abiodun declared. “It will be the first peaceful transition in the 50-year history of Ogun State.”

He expressed personal confidence in the process, stating, “By God’s grace, I will sit down as your governor at my send-forth ceremony and also sit at the swearing-in ceremony of my successor.”

Governor Abiodun attributed this optimism to the state’s economic expansion and developmental strides under his leadership. He highlighted that the state’s annual budget had grown from approximately ₦355 billion at the inception of his administration to over ₦2.7 trillion, a reflection of increased economic activity and investor confidence.

“Our economy has grown almost five times from what we met on the ground. New factories and industries are springing up across the state,” he said, citing the reconstruction of over 2,000 schools, job creation, agricultural empowerment, and landmark projects like the Gateway International Airport as part of his administration’s legacy.

Turning to the festive season, the governor urged residents to look beyond merriment to the core values of Christmas. “Christmas is about love — loving your neighbour as yourself… In the spirit of Christmas, we must remember to give to others and extend a hand of fellowship to the less privileged,” he advised, also cautioning against excessive alcohol consumption.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “purposeful leadership” through the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting improvements in fuel availability, inflation, and foreign exchange stability.

In his sermon titled “Christmas Is God’s Best Gift to You,” the Vicar of St. James’ Anglican Church, Venerable Tolulope Akinwande, described Christmas as the season God gave Himself to humanity through Jesus Christ. He urged congregants to accept the gift of Christ and live transformed lives.

Ven. Akinwande also praised Governor Abiodun for his “purposeful and transformative leadership,” praying that the end of his tenure would be better than its beginning.

The governor’s message reinforced his commitment to a legacy of development and a precedent-setting peaceful conclusion to his constitutional term.
