Ogun IGR May Hit ₦100bn Monthly as Deep Seaport, Airport Drive Economic Growth — Yayi
..Commends Abiodun for Laying Solid Economic Foundation, Promises to Build on His Legacies

The APC governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), has projected that the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) could rise to ₦100 billion monthly in the coming years, citing the economic foundation laid by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration over the last seven and a half years.
Adeola made the projection during the continuation of his statewide stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Ikenne Local Government Area, where he commended Governor Abiodun for implementing his administration’s 9-Pillar ITESIWAJU Agenda and initiating major infrastructure projects expected to transform Ogun State’s economy.
The senator identified the proposed $7 billion Deep Sea Port in Ogun Waterside, the Gateway International Cargo Airport and two inland dry ports as strategic investments that would position the state for significant economic expansion.
He expressed optimism that the proposed seaport, expected to become operational in 2029, would strengthen Ogun State’s economic capacity and enable it to compete favourably with Lagos in commerce, industrialisation and revenue generation.
According to Adeola, the Abiodun administration has laid a solid foundation for future prosperity, which he pledged to consolidate if elected governor in 2027.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun is laying a foundation for me that no governor coming after me will not pray for. Ogun State is about to become an oil-producing state courtesy of Governor Abiodun,” he said.
He added that the synergy between the state government, the Federal Government and his proposed administration would guarantee sustained economic growth and development.
Adeola acknowledged that no administration could accomplish every developmental objective within its tenure but maintained that Governor Abiodun had performed creditably, noting that his proposed 9-Pillar ITESIWAJU Agenda would consolidate existing achievements while introducing additional initiatives.
The senator also called on the people of Ogun East Senatorial District to support Governor Abiodun’s reported ambition to represent the district in the Senate in 2027, describing him as the most suitable candidate because of his contributions to the development of the state.
On his governorship ambition, Adeola appealed to the people of Ikenne and other communities in Remoland to reciprocate the political support extended to Governor Abiodun by the Yewa people during the 2023 governorship election.
He recalled that the Yewa people supported Abiodun’s re-election and urged the Remo people to extend similar support to his aspiration to succeed the governor.
“The Yewas have never betrayed the Remo. We ensured that the governor won his second-term ticket, and he won. So, I am here today to solicit your support to reciprocate the gesture we have shown to Governor Abiodun by supporting me to become the next governor of Ogun State,” he said.
Adeola promised to address areas where the present administration might not have fully met residents’ expectations, assuring that his proposed government would promote inclusive governance, sustain ongoing projects and build on the achievements of the Abiodun administration.
He further advocated a smooth transition of power, warning that a successor unfamiliar with the policies, efforts and challenges behind the current administration’s achievements could disrupt the state’s development trajectory.
Earlier, the Ologere of Ogere, Oba Joseph Obafemi Saliu, expressed support for Adeola’s governorship ambition, noting that his previous interventions in Ikenne Local Government demonstrated his commitment to grassroots development.
The traditional ruler, who spoke on behalf of other monarchs and Baales, highlighted the senator’s contributions in road construction, healthcare infrastructure and solar-powered streetlights, adding that his developmental interventions had extended to Ikenne despite not representing the area as a senator.
He expressed confidence that Adeola would deliver meaningful development to the people if elected governor.
The town hall meeting attracted representatives of more than 30 groups, including Community Development Associations (CDAs), Community Development Committees (CDCs), Baales, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the League of Imams, the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and other voluntary organisations.
Adeola was accompanied by his wife, Chief Mrs Temitope Adeola; APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun; Director-General of the APC Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Senator Lekan Mustapha; Deputy Director-General (Political) of the campaign council, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu; Hon. Kayode Oladele; and Dr. Samuel Adejare, Secretary of the APC Campaign Council, among other dignitaries.
