Ogun 2027: Yayi Promises New Towns Development Agency, Revival of Road, Environmental Agencies

ABEOKUTA — Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, has promised to establish a New Towns Development Agency and revitalise key road maintenance, environmental protection and waste management agencies if elected governor in 2027.

Adeola made the promises during an interactive session with Remo Collectives, a sociocultural group of accomplished Remo indigenes, at which the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, was present.

The senator also pledged to establish a Ministry of Wealth Creation as part of his nine-pillar ITESIWAJU Agenda, explaining that the proposed ministry would drive job creation through skills acquisition, training and empowerment programmes targeting youths and women.

According to him, the proposed New Towns Development Authority would oversee the development of modern towns equipped with essential infrastructure, while existing towns and communities would be upgraded and preserved as historical legacies.

Responding to calls for the improvement of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Adeola promised to work with Governor Dapo Abiodun to revitalise the state-owned tertiary health institution before December.

He described inclusive healthcare and wellbeing as critical components of his ITESIWAJU Agenda, adding that he was facilitating the construction of a four-storey hospital building at Remo General Hospital, which he said had reached the roofing stage, with completion scheduled for December.

“As we speak, I am facilitating a four-storey hospital building to be fully equipped at Remo General Hospital, and it is at the roofing level now, with completion set for December. Similarly, 14 similar projects are ongoing across the state,” he said.

Adeola commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his economic reforms, expressing optimism that the benefits of the policies would increasingly reach ordinary Nigerians. He also praised Governor Abiodun for laying what he described as a solid economic foundation for Ogun State through major infrastructure projects.

He specifically cited the Gateway International Cargo Airport, proposed dry inland ports in Ijebu and Egba, and the planned $7 billion deep seaport as projects that could strengthen the state’s revenue base, attract investments and enhance its economic competitiveness with Lagos State.

The APC candidate further disclosed that he had facilitated more than 36 infrastructure projects across Remoland, covering roads, education, solar streetlights, rural electrification, modern markets, information and communication technology centres, and primary healthcare centres.

Earlier, the Akarigbo urged Adeola to prioritise the creation of additional local government areas or local development areas for Remoland rather than focusing on state creation. He suggested that Sagamu could be divided into three or four local government areas.

The monarch also commended the senator for attracting development projects to Remoland, noting that some of his interventions had been undertaken quietly. He specifically mentioned the road leading to his palace and other infrastructure projects.

In his welcome address, the President of Remo Collectives, Mr Akintayo Rabiu, represented by his vice-president, Mr Olumide Onimole, said the group invited Adeola to discuss his development plans for Ogun State, particularly Remoland.

Other dignitaries at the meeting included the Elepe of Epe, Oba Adewale Oshiberu; elder statesman and Aare Gbo Gbo of Remoland, Otunba Kola Oyefeso; Hon. Gboyega Nosiru Isiaka, representing Imeko-Afon/Yewa North Federal Constituency; Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Laolu Olabimtan; APC State Organising Secretary, Hon. Yemi Adelani; Managing Director of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Prince Deji Ashiru; and former Sagamu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Daisi Akintan.

The meeting formed part of Adeola’s engagements with stakeholders as he presents his ITESIWAJU Agenda ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
